WINTER TIME is your vehicle ready ?
The phone's are ringing and question's are being , ASKED. what do i have to do to prepare for winter time,? It has been so nice out the years past it never really got that cold do I have to do anything to my vehicle. It seems's as though our vehicles are going along pretty well over the past several years without any real major headaches or breakdowns and that alone can give us a sense of reliability, but does it ? There are several maintenance areas that should be considered, Number #1 is the engine coolant different manufactures IE: FORD , GM , HONDA, TOYOTA EC: require specific blend for there product, and MUST NOT be crossed mix !!! there are some after market manufactures that have a multi mix that is compatible, however opinion is if no factory type of coolant is available then use the multi mix solution. Some coolants are deemed permanent anti freeze, we here at Greenbelt Auto & Truck Repair, feel that coolants should be replaced by yearly, with a through flushing of engine to remove any contaminated coolant, with all the disimular metals in today's engine & cooling systems, electrolisis is still very much occuring, and will prematurely corrode internal components, we have seen water circulation pump impellers literly vanish, from lack of coolant system maintenance, some owners manuals will have service intervals noted, this too may help in determning service intervals. Just for clafication there are still many cooling system components that were used many years ago and on todays late model engines,IE: thermostats, heater hoses, block expansion plugs, heater cores, times have changed and so have our vehicles but some things always go back to the basics, JOE
